Why worry when you can give it to God?

Do you know people who worry all the time about things? Do you know people when life gets a little tough they get stressed to the max? Do you worry about things in the future because you do not know what is going to happen? Well, for most people this is perfectly normal behavior. Jesus knows we are going to have some struggling times, so He wanted to make it clear that we need to trust Him with our worries.

Today I want to discuss what Jesus says about it, and how we should deal with it in our own lives. Since Jesus talks about worrying, then obviously people worried 2000 years ago. One of Jesus’ largest sermons was the Sermon on the Mount. One of His main focus was on this exact subject: worrying.

Jesus said, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you- you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, “what shall we eat? Or What shall we drink? Or or what shall we wear? For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness, all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:25-34

Do you feel better now? :) You may still be saying no if you’re going through a difficult time, but think about this for second - who gives us the trials in our lives? God! Why does He give them to you? So you will trust Him to help you get through them. So if He is giving them to you, and He wants you to trust Him to work it out, should we really be concerned about it? There are things in our lives that are going to come up that are unavoidable. How we act dealing with them is up to us. We can be a great example to others watching and seeing how our faith plays in our lives. I know death, major issues with money, job loss, and family problems can cause a lot of frustration and stress to life. Jesus just asked us to give it to God and have peace knowing it will work out in His time. The shortest verse in the bible is “Jesus wept.” Jesus knows hurt. He knows pain. He knows poor. He knows hunger. He knows being tempted. He knows betrayal. I can go on and on with the things He has gone through, but my point is He understands it. In Deuteronomy 31:6 it says, “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

That is pretty cool don't you think? It is great knowing God is already going ahead of the issues that come our way. Be patient on Him to work them out. Its ok to pray for His will. Most of the things in our lives are things out of our control anyway, so I encourage you to keep moving forward. Let others see the trust, faith, and love you have for Christ!

God bless,
E.
