Part 3 - Obeying what you already know to be God's will

Principles for Knowing God's Will for your Life

the Series

Good evening,

I hope you all had a chance to read my last devotional on “Surrendering your will to God”.  If you remember, we will be discussing different principles to help guide you to hearing God's Will for your life.  Lets review:

  1. We first must be walking with God
  2. You must surrender your will to God
  3. You need to obey what you already know to be God's Will

If we need to obey what we know already to be God's Will, then that means we should know what that Will is, right?  How do we know that?  Well, if you go back to #1 ”We must be walking with God”, and to walk with God means we have to be in his word.  That means understanding what Jesus wants us to do.

It is knowing his 10 Commandments, understanding his Parables, reading stories from the New and Old testament, and memorizing Scriptures.

Many people want to know God's plan for their lives, but they overlook the fact that 98% of His Will is already spoken carefully through His Word.  God is very clear about many aspects of His Will.  He tells us that we should abstain from sexual immorality.  We should love our neighbor as our self.  We should not do this, and we should do that.  The only way to know this is by reading His Word.

If we do not obey the things that God has shown us clearly in His Word, why would we think He would reveal any further information regarding His plan for our lives?  Obedience is so important. 1 John 5:3 says, Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome.  I like this part in verse 5, And who can win this battle against the world?  Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

In the last several days I have had several opportunities to share these principles with 2 college students, and 2 adults who are struggling right now with what God's Will for their life.  I honestly do not have the answers for all the questions that are being asked, but I do know its not by chance I am writing these devotionals at the same time they are talking to me.  God in His timing puts people in our lives that can bring encouraging words if we are willing to share them.  Because I am writing these devotionals 6 days before you will actually read them, that is why I know it is not by chance.

I hope you also find these words encouraging, as well start seeing that these principles line up to God's plan. Tomorrow night I will be discussing “Seeking Godly input”.

Do you have people in your life that you respect for Godly advice?  If you do, do they know that you are seeking their advice?  If you do not have anyone, I would pray that God would reveal someone to you.

God bless,

E
